Yes — you can upload a profile avatar. Accepted image formats are png, jpg, jpeg, gif, and webp. For best results use a square image; larger images will be resized. If you have trouble uploading, contact support.

Sessions are persistent — by default you remain logged in for up to one year unless you explicitly log out. For security, we use HTTPS and secure, HTTP-only cookies.

Upload your manuscript and choose a package. Our AI-powered pipeline delivers proofreading, copy editing, line editing, and (for Complete) developmental feedback — with Pro/Complete offering a track-changes review so you stay in control. Most paid edits are processed quickly (typically 15–45 minutes).

Paid edits typically begin processing as soon as payment is completed and are usually finished within 15–45 minutes. Free Proofreads are also processed automatically but may be lower priority in the queue and are limited to one manuscript per account every 30 days. Very large manuscripts (our system flags those over ~500 pages / ~125,000 words) may require manual review before processing, which can add time; if manual review is needed we'll contact you with next steps.

For Pro and Complete packages you'll get a track-changes review in your dashboard so you can accept or reject suggestions; paid edits remain accessible from your Dashboard. Free Proofread provides a clean corrected download (no track-changes view) and the download is available for 7 days after completion. You'll also receive an email notification when the edit is ready. If you don't receive an email within an hour after payment or completion, please check your Dashboard (My Manuscripts) and spam/junk; if it's not present, contact support (hello@bookeditor.io) and include your order details so we can investigate.

Our line editing is designed to preserve your voice. The AI focuses on fixing clear grammar, clarity, and flow problems without rewriting your intentional style choices, rhythm, or phrasing. If you want a lighter touch, choose Light intensity; for more assertive rewrites, choose Aggressive. In all cases the final call is always yours — you can accept or reject every individual suggestion before downloading.

Two ways to try our editing: 1) Preview (landing page) — a quick, no-account sample analysis that looks at roughly the first 1,000 words (~4 pages) so you can see how our editing works before signing up. No login required for this quick sample. 2) Free Proofread (account required) — when you upload from your account, we process your entire manuscript at no charge (limited to one Free Proofread per account every 30 days). Free-tier uploads are retained for 7 days and then automatically removed. If you want long-term access, repeat reviews, or a track-changes version, upgrade to Pro or Complete.

If SelfPublishing.pro forwarded your manuscript to BookEditor.io, it is already staged in your account. Log in (or create a free account — check your email for a set-password welcome link if you are new), then visit your Dashboard. You will see a pending setup for your manuscript; click it to open the upload form pre-filled with your title and file. Choose your editing package (Free Proofread, Pro Edit, or Complete Edit), select your preferred style guide and editing intensity, and submit. Your manuscript will enter the editing queue immediately.

From your Dashboard (My Manuscripts), open the job you want to remove and click the Delete button. This permanently deletes the manuscript file and all associated edits. If you accidentally delete a paid job and need recovery, contact support at hello@bookeditor.io as soon as possible — recovery may be possible from backups on a best-effort basis.

Yes — for Pro and Complete packages you can download a CSV changelog from the review page. The changelog lists every suggested edit, including the original text, the suggested replacement, the edit type (e.g., grammar, clarity, flow), and the editor's explanation. This is useful for reviewing changes offline or sharing with a co-author.

The Complete Edit includes two exclusive deliverables in addition to line editing: an editorial letter (a narrative developmental feedback report covering structure, pacing, character arcs, and overall story strengths and weaknesses) and a story bible (a structured reference document summarizing characters, settings, themes, and world-building details extracted from your manuscript). Both appear in your dashboard review view once the edit is complete.

Yes — the review page for Pro and Complete packages includes an Accept All button that marks every remaining pending suggestion as accepted in one click. You can still reset individual suggestions back to pending afterward if you want to reconsider specific changes before downloading your final draft.

For Pro and Complete packages, your edits appear in the Dashboard where you can accept or reject suggestions in a track-changes style review. Use the "Download Final Draft" button in the review view to download the edited manuscript once you're satisfied. Free Proofreads provide a clean corrected download (no track-changes view). If you need a specific file format or have trouble downloading, contact support at hello@bookeditor.io.

You can upload .docx or .txt manuscripts for professional AI-powered editing. Individual file size must be 100MB or less. We count pages at roughly 250 words per page and use a flat-rate threshold of 500 pages (about 125,000 words); manuscripts above that threshold may be flagged for manual review which can affect pricing or processing time. If a manual review is required, we'll contact you with next steps.

If an upload or .docx extraction error occurs, try saving the file from Word as a new .docx and re-uploading, or upload a .txt version. If problems persist, contact support (hello@bookeditor.io) with the file and a brief description and we'll help recover your manuscript.

Free-tier manuscripts are retained for 7 days and are then automatically removed. Paid edits (Pro and Complete) remain accessible in your dashboard; if you need a paid manuscript removed sooner, contact support and we'll assist.

Manuscripts uploaded to BookEditor.io are stored on secure cloud storage (Amazon S3) or on our servers, depending on the job. All uploads and downloads use HTTPS in transit and access to manuscript files is restricted to our processing systems. Free-tier uploads are retained for 7 days and then removed; paid edits remain accessible in your dashboard. If you need a manuscript removed sooner or have a specific security request, contact support at hello@bookeditor.io.

We currently support only .docx and .txt manuscript files. If you have a PDF, save or export it from your editor as a .docx (preferred) or .txt and then upload. If you're unsure how to convert your file or have trouble, contact support at hello@bookeditor.io and we'll help.

Yes — when uploading your manuscript you can select a style guide (Chicago Manual of Style, APA, MLA, AP Style, or Fiction/Preserve Voice) and an editing intensity (Light for obvious issues only, Standard for a balanced edit, or Aggressive for more rewrites and clarity improvements). These options apply to Pro and Complete packages; Free Proofreads use standard settings by default.

We count words by splitting the extracted manuscript text on whitespace and convert to pages using roughly 250 words per page. The system computes page_count = max(1, round(word_count / 250)) so the minimum page count is 1. Our flat-rate threshold is 500 pages (about 125,000 words); manuscripts above this threshold may be flagged for manual review which can affect pricing or processing time — we'll contact you if additional review is required.

Free-tier uploads are retained for 7 days and then automatically removed by our cleanup process. If your Free Proofread job is older than 7 days it may have been deleted as expected. Paid edits remain accessible in your Dashboard. If you need recovery help, contact support (hello@bookeditor.io) with your account email and manuscript title and we'll check backups and options.

Yes — if you have books on SelfPublishing.pro, they will appear on the upload page under the "SelfPublishing.pro" tab. Select your title and the system will pull your manuscript file directly into the upload form. Choose your editing package, style guide, and intensity, then submit. No need to re-download or re-upload your file.

Yes — on the upload form, use the Import book details panel to auto-fill public information about your book. Switch to the ISBN tab and enter an ISBN-10 or ISBN-13, or switch to the Amazon URL tab and paste a link to your book page. Either method can fill in the title and genre. You still need to upload the manuscript file (.docx or .txt) separately, as ISBN and Amazon lookups only provide metadata.

No — you can get started without a credit card. We offer a Free Proofread at no charge (this processes your entire manuscript and is limited to one manuscript per account every 30 days). Processed results and the corrected download for Free Proofreads are available for 7 days after completion; after 7 days the free-tier upload and files are removed. To get track-changes review, line editing, or developmental feedback, choose Pro or Complete and complete payment at checkout. Note: the Preview/sample tool on our homepage does not require an account (it analyzes roughly the first 1,000 words (~4 pages)); however, the Full Free Proofread requires you to be logged in to your BookEditor.io account to upload a manuscript.

If you believe you are eligible for a refund, contact support at hello@bookeditor.io with your account email, manuscript title, order ID (if available), and a brief reason. Our policy: if you cancel before processing has begun (job status is still queued), we will issue a full refund via the original payment method. Once processing has started or completed, the job is non-refundable because the AI compute cost has been incurred. If a job fails due to a technical problem on our side, we will either re-run the job or issue a refund at our discretion. Approved refunds are processed through Stripe and typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.

Yes — you must be logged in to your BookEditor.io account to start and complete payment for Pro or Complete packages. If you don't have an account, create one (it's free) before checking out. If you hit any issues during checkout, email hello@bookeditor.io and include your account email and manuscript title so we can assist.

First, please check your Dashboard (My Manuscripts) — paid jobs should appear there. Also check your email (including spam/junk) for a receipt or confirmation. Paid edits typically begin processing immediately and are usually finished within 15–45 minutes; in rare cases it can take up to an hour. If you still don't see your job after an hour, contact us at hello@bookeditor.io or use the contact form and include your account email, manuscript title, and any receipt or order ID so we can investigate and reconcile your payment quickly.

No problem — your job is not deleted. If you cancel or close the checkout window your editing job stays in a pending state. Return to your Dashboard, find the job, and click Pay again whenever you're ready. Nothing is charged until you complete checkout successfully.

Yes — if you have an affiliate or referral coupon code, enter it on the checkout page before clicking Pay. Valid coupon codes apply a 10% discount to your Pro or Complete package. Each code is for single use per customer. If your code is not working, double-check the spelling and contact support at hello@bookeditor.io if the problem persists.

Yes — we offer an affiliate program through Archieboy Holdings. Affiliates earn a commission for each paying customer they refer. Uploaded manuscripts and downloads use secure storage and encrypted transit. All packages process manuscripts through cloud-based AI models; your manuscript text is transmitted securely via HTTPS during AI processing. Manuscript files may be stored on our servers or in secure cloud storage (Amazon S3) for processing; free-tier uploads are removed after 7 days. No. We will never use your manuscript to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any AI model — ours or anyone else's. Our AI providers (currently OpenAI and Google Gemini via OpenRouter) operate under their no-training-by-default API terms, meaning your manuscript text is used solely to generate editing suggestions for you. This commitment is written into our Terms and Conditions at bookeditor.io/terms.

Your manuscript is processed securely and confidentially. All packages use cloud-based AI models; your manuscript text is transmitted securely via HTTPS during processing. We will never use your manuscript to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any AI model — our AI providers operate under their no-training-by-default API terms. We do not sell, rent, or share your manuscript with any party other than the AI providers needed to perform the edit you requested. Manuscript files are stored in private cloud storage (Amazon S3) only as needed and per our retention policy (free uploads are removed after 7 days; paid edits are retained indefinitely).
