BookEditor.io Terms and Conditions

The site-specific terms that govern your use of BookEditor.io.

Last updated: April 25, 2026

1. Scope

These site-specific Terms apply to your use of BookEditor.io and incorporate the Archieboy Master Terms by reference. By using BookEditor.io, you agree to both these site-specific Terms and the Master Terms. Where a conflict exists, these site-specific Terms control for BookEditor.io.

2. Your manuscript — ownership and confidentiality

You retain full ownership of your manuscript. Uploading a manuscript does not transfer copyright, publication rights, or any other ownership interest to Archieboy.

You grant Archieboy a limited license, solely to operate the editing service, to:

  • Store your manuscript in our private storage (Amazon S3, encrypted at rest, in the private/bookeditor/manuscripts/ prefix).
  • Transmit relevant portions of your manuscript to underlying AI providers (currently OpenAI and Google Gemini via OpenRouter) for the purpose of generating editing suggestions for you.
  • Generate, store, and present edits, change tracking, and downloadable output files back to you.

Confidentiality commitments:

  • We will not sell, rent, license, or share your manuscript with any party other than the AI providers needed to perform the edit you requested.
  • We will not use your manuscript to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any machine-learning model operated by Archieboy or any third party. Our AI providers are configured to operate under their no-training-by-default API terms.
  • Internal access to manuscript content is limited to authorized Archieboy personnel for legitimate operational and support purposes (debugging a failed job, responding to your support request, fraud or abuse investigation).

3. Manuscript retention

  • Free tier (proofread): manuscript files and job records are automatically deleted seven (7) days after job completion.
  • Pro and Complete tiers: manuscript files and edit records are retained indefinitely while your account remains in good standing, so you can revisit downloads and accept/reject changes.
  • You may permanently delete any job from your dashboard at any time. Deletion removes the manuscript file from our storage and the job record from our database.
  • If you close your account, all manuscripts and job records are deleted within 30 days per the Master Terms.

4. AI editing — what we do and don’t do

BookEditor.io produces AI-generated editing suggestions. What we do:

  • Free (Proofread): grammar, spelling, basic punctuation, and clarity catches.
  • Pro (Line Edit): grammar, clarity, flow, sentence rewrites, consistency, per-edit accept/reject in a track-changes interface.
  • Complete (Developmental): everything in Pro, plus an editorial letter, story bible, structural feedback, and plot/character consistency analysis.

What we do not do:

  • We do not check whether your manuscript infringes any third party’s copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property right. Plagiarism, similarity, and originality review are your responsibility.
  • We do not perform fact-checking, citation verification, or source verification. Statements of fact in your manuscript remain your responsibility.
  • We do not provide legal review, libel review, defamation screening, or any other legal advice.
  • We do not guarantee any specific quality outcome, completeness of catches, or that any particular issue will be detected. AI editing is best-effort and may miss errors, introduce new ones, or suggest changes that conflict with your voice or intent.

You are solely responsible for reviewing every suggested edit before accepting it, for proofreading the final manuscript, and for the legal, factual, and stylistic content of the published work.

5. Pricing, payment, and refunds

  • BookEditor.io operates on one-time per-job pricing. Free ($0), Pro ($149), Complete ($299). There are no subscriptions, no recurring charges, and no auto-renewal.
  • Pricing is a flat rate for manuscripts up to approximately 500 pages (~125,000 words). Manuscripts above that threshold may require a custom quote — we will contact you before processing.
  • Refunds:
    • If you cancel a paid job before processing has begun (job status is still queued), you may request a full refund by contacting support. We will refund via the original payment method.
    • Once processing has begun or completed, the job is non-refundable, because the AI compute cost has been incurred.
    • If a job fails on our side due to a platform-level technical malfunction (not user input error), we will either re-run the job or issue a refund at our discretion.
  • The free proofread is limited to one preview per account per 30 days; resets are not guaranteed and require operator approval.

6. Cross-site ingest from sister services

BookEditor.io accepts cross-site manuscript handoffs from SelfPublishing.pro via a server-to-server ingest endpoint authenticated by bearer token. When you initiate a handoff from SelfPublishing.pro, the relevant manuscript file and metadata (title, genre, your email) are transferred to BookEditor.io and an account is created or matched on your behalf. You receive an email with set-password instructions.

The handoff itself is governed by the SelfPublishing.pro Terms; once the manuscript lands on BookEditor.io, these Terms and the Master Terms apply.

7. Prohibited content

You agree not to upload manuscripts that:

  • You do not own or do not have all necessary rights to submit for editing.
  • Sexualize or place at risk any minor (any such material will be reported as required by law).
  • Promote violence against, hatred toward, or harassment of any group.
  • Are intended for fraud, deception, scams, defamation, or to violate any law.
  • Violate the content policies of the underlying AI provider.

We reserve the right to refuse or terminate any job that violates these rules and to suspend accounts engaged in repeated abuse.

8. Output ownership and use

The edited manuscript and any associated outputs (track-changes review, CSV changelog, editorial letter, story bible) are yours to use, distribute, and publish on any platform of your choosing, subject to your own representations of ownership and the disclosure rules of the platforms where you publish. Note that retailers (Amazon KDP and others) may require disclosure of AI-assisted content; truthful disclosure is your responsibility.

9. Everything else

All other terms — eligibility, payment processing, account termination, intellectual property in our software and brand, DMCA copyright complaints, disclaimers of warranty, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and changes to these Terms — are governed by the Archieboy Master Terms.
